1) Affiliation Report Due Thursday, Oct 31
Nonprofits are required by state and federal laws to annually file paperwork. The Affiliation Report includes the requirements to keep your PTA legal. If a PTA does not file, they put their nonprofit status and their income tax exemption in jeopardy. The report is due to LAPTA on October 31, 2024. If you need help or more time, contact Philip Davis, VP of Affiliation, at Affiliation@LouisianaPTA.org. The report includes:
Proof of Paid Membership Dues
Officer Registration with LAPTA
Proof of 2022 or 2023 Federal Tax Filing
Annual Report with LA Secretary of State
Current Insurance
Annual Budget Report and Budget Approval Form
Current Bylaws
If you need help with any step or need more time, contact Philip Davis. We are all on the same team and want every PTA to stay legal!
2) Instagram's New Teen Accounts
LAPTA attended a fancy event in New Orleans that was sponsored by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) which featured National PTA President Yvonne Johnson. The goal of the event was to discuss the challenges parents face with their teens on social media. Meta worked with National PTA to create safeguards for our children on Instagram with their new Teen Accounts for ages 13 - 17. (As a side note, Snap Chat will not even talk with National PTA.... That says a lot and gives much appreciation for Instagram's cooperation.)
For those who allow their teens on Instagram, please visit their Family Center to learn more about their Teen Accounts. In an area where parents can feel completely out of control, Instagram is taking steps to protect our teens with automatic features such as:
Required Private Accounts
Messaging Restrictions
Sensitive Content Restrictions
Limited Interactions
Time Limit Reminders
Sleep Mode Enabled
Thanks to those local leaders who attended from Covington Elementary PTA and Chahta-Ima PTA!
3) October Membership Challenge
Win the October Swamp Monster Award by submitting 31 new member dues by October 31 before the Rougarou gets you! Yes, you can strategize submitting dues to win more Monthly Membership Challenges, especially to qualify for the Challenge Champ Award (earn 5 or more Monthly Challenges).
4) Reflections Theme Search
Share this graphic with your students to have them submit the next theme for the National PTA Reflections Arts Program. That's the only thing you need to do! LAPTA will select 5 winners to advance to National PTA who will pick one final winner. As always, there is also the Reflections Arts Program which is a great way to enhance the arts education for all students.
As we quickly role into November, thank you for all you're doing at your school! Please let us know if there is anything else LAPTA can help you with.
Thank you!!
Beth Maillho
LAPTA President
