Louisiana Lagniappe PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) is a brand new state-wide PTSA. The difference between a PTA and a PTSA is its emphasis on and inclusion of Students. There are many reasons why someone would join a state-wide PTSA such as you'd like to support the mission of PTA, you don't have a PTA at your school, your school's PTA isn't a good fit for your family, or your children are homeschooled. If you join Lagniappe PTSA, you also become a member of Louisiana PTA and National PTA.
Members are eligible to participate in LAPTA and National PTA programs, grants, and awards such as the Reflections Program which celebrates six areas in the arts. They become part of the oldest and biggest child advocacy organization in the country. National PTA is 125 years old with millions of members, and Louisiana PTA is in its centennial year!
Another reason is to join the millions of PTA members who advocate for students across the Nation to help all children reach their potential. Plus, have your voice heard with those who listen and take action.
But we are not official yet! We need a Board of Directors to get it Louisiana Lagniappe PTSA up and running.
We need volunteers for the Executive Committee which are President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary. To be an Executive Board Member, previous PTA/PTSA experience is required. To be a Committee Chair Board Member, previous experience is not required. We will train you.
This will be a virtual PTSA unit because it is not affiliated with a school. The monthly Board meetings will be over Zoom.
The main purpose of a state-wide PTSA is to open up participation in National PTA programs and grants to those students without a local PTA option. Another reason is to join the millions of PTA members who advocate for students across the Nation to help all children reach their potential. Plus, have your voice heard with those who listen and take action.
Once the PTSA is established and membership opened, absolutely everyone can join in or out of Louisiana, young or old, student or not, anyone, anywhere. Thirty memberships are needed to get to full active status.
If you would like to volunteer for the Louisiana Lagniappe PTSA Board of Directors, please email Beth Maillho at treasurer@LouisianaPTA.org. Include your contact information, past PTA/PTSA experience, where your children go to school or are homeschooled if applicable, and any other helpful information. To speak with Beth, send an email. Let's GEAUX!!
Why do we PTA? To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
