It is important to remember all PTAs/PTSa are a business -- a nonprofit business. We have a duty and responsibility to follow the laws and regulations of the United States IRS, and the State of Louisiana to maintain a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status; and charter requirements of the Louisiana and National PTA to continue PTA affliation.
All local units in Louisiana have mandantory annual requirements that need to be documented and submitted to LAPTA in order to continue operating as a PTA/PTSA -- in the form of Good Standing Files. A unit must be in" Good Standing" to be eligible for awards, grants, and student participation in LAPTA and National PTA judged programs like Reflections.
LAPTA has recognized that there are Local Units who are unable to field the Board of Directors as defined by their specific bylaws but do not want to lose their affliation with Louisiana and National PTA and their 501(c)(3) staus with the IRS. To support these PTA/PTSAs, LAPTA has amended Local Unit Bylaws to put in place a program titled "Protected Units". Go to the Bylaws page to download information on the Protected Unit Status.
Good Standing Files will be due to Louisiana PTA on November 1, 2021. Our orginal submission date has been extended to provide our Local Units affected by Hurricane Ida additional time to prepare their files.
If your unit is having any problems in completing your Unit in Good Standing file, please let us know here at the LAPTA Office and let's work together to get it done! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Our shared mission in PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
