It is important to remember all PTAs are a business, a nonprofit business. We have a duty and responsibility to follow the laws and regulations of the United States IRS and the State of Louisiana to maintain a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status as well as charter requirements of Louisiana PTA and National PTA to continue PTA affiliation.
All local units in Louisiana have mandatory annual requirements that need to be documented and submitted to LAPTA in order to continue operating as a PTA through the Active Affiliation Files. A unit must be in" Active Affiliation" to be eligible for awards, grants, and student participation in LAPTA and National PTA judged programs like Reflections. See the Active Affiliation Packet below.
LAPTA has recognized that there are Local Units who are unable to field the Board of Directors as defined by their specific bylaws but do not want to lose their affiliation with Louisiana and National PTA and their 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. To support these PTAs, LAPTA has amended Local Unit Bylaws to put in place a program titled "Protected Units". Go to the Bylaws page to review information on the Protected Unit Status located in the Local Unit Bylaws template.
Active Affiliation Files will be due to Louisiana PTA on October 28, 2022, for the 2022-2023 operational year.
If your unit is having any problems in completing your Active Affiliation files, please let us know here at the LAPTA Office and let's work together to get it done! Email us at email@example.com.
